The Poker Face Series is a series of novels about the protagonist, Charlie Cale, and her friends. They all work as waitresses in a casino located in Las Vegas, where they happen to be lucky enough to have one of them with an amazing ability-Charlie can always tell when someone nearby is lying. The main character’s life undergoes dramatic changes when she starts delving into a dangerous lifestyle because of her abilities.

Jake Foley is a pro poker player who amassed a fortune creating an online game at the dawn of the Internet and selling software, but now he is dying of pancreatic cancer. William Tell is a former military man. He retired from business a long time ago and became addicted to poker, riding around the casinos of Las Vegas. Cold-bloodedness and the ability to calculate the situation many moves ahead allow him to win good money. His goal is to get to the World Series and win even more. Suddenly, his old acquaintance Kirk appears in Tell’s life, who offers the hero to take revenge on their common enemy from the past. William resists at first, but then gets involved in a dangerous game. Now something much more valuable than money is at stake.

As expected, we still have the same sophisticated story-constructor of the master of dialogues, however, not without directorial blunders. Taking on a strong female protagonist for the first time, Sorkin dives into the world of underground poker, resolves a father issue and lets the mighty Idris Elba break out into a formulaic lawyer speech.
